How to stop running on empty – inside the world of IV wellness with Alchemy by Effect Doctors
By Fiona Sanderson
In this fast-paced world, we’re used to feeling like we’re constantly low on energy, so I was keen to visit Alchemy by Effect Doctors, located outside London in Henley-on-Thames. With a range of treatments designed to enhance your vitality and overall wellbeing, a team of highly-skilled doctors and nurses is available from Alchemy’s Danesfield House clinic and even by appointment at your home, office or hotel, to offer everything from health checks to intravenous drips (IV drip therapy is what they are famous for).
During my treatment, I managed to quiz Becky, the registered nurse who was administering my treatment, about how we all seem to be running on empty, and how to feel more energised. I expected to hear about IV drips and vitamin blends. What I didn’t expect was how passionate she’d be – not just about the science, but about the people.
“I love meeting people and helping them feel better,” Becky told me. “Everyone’s living such busy lives, often running on empty. This gives them a real boost – to actually tackle life, not just survive it.”
Becky is one of the practitioners who delivers Alchemy’s bespoke IV vitamin infusions directly to clients – either in clinic or via their mobile service. Every single infusion is mixed by hand and tailored to the individual. “There’s no one-size-fits-all. I adjust every formulation based on what someone’s body actually needs,” she stressed.
I asked if there’s a particular type of client who benefits most. Becky didn’t hesitate. “Anyone putting their body under a lot of strain – even through the pressures of everyday life – relies on effective recovery solutions to feel and perform at their best,” she said. “When your body’s working overtime, you need more than just a multivitamin gummy.”
She talked me through some of the key ingredients she uses regularly – Vitamin C, B12, selenium, zinc, NAD and B-complex vitamins. “They all do slightly different things for energy, immunity, and recovery, but they work best when we mix them based on what that person’s actually lacking,” she explained.
One common misconception she’s keen to dispel is that IV infusions are some sort of medical shortcut. “We live in a culture of wanting a quick fix when we get ill,” she said. “But health doesn’t work like that. What we’re offering is a way to support your body before things go wrong – an aid to long-term wellbeing, not a replacement for it.”
She also pointed out how IV infusions can often succeed where oral supplements fall short. “With oral vitamins, you need to take them for months – sometimes for life – and let’s be honest, people get lazy. An IV delivers the essential nutrients and fluids directly into the bloodstream, bypassing your digestive tract, ensuring maximum absorption and effectiveness compared with taking oral supplements.”
Alchemy takes safety seriously, too. “First-time clients fill out a questionnaire, and then there’s a full consultation with a doctor over the phone,” Becky explained. “They review your medical history and make sure you’re fit for the procedure. There’s always a doctor on call with us.”
It’s not just women booking in, either. “It’s about 60/40,” Becky laughed. “You’d be surprised how many men are into this now. I went out to Cirencester recently to treat four guys – big, fitness types. They were all in.”
Becky also travels to clients by car, delivering a bespoke clinic experience right to their door – whether in the comfort of their home, the privacy of their workplace, or the exclusivity of a training facility. She can even service film and TV studios. “It’s all about convenience,” she said. “Our clients lead demanding lives, so we elevate wellness by bringing it directly to them.”
I wanted to know how the original vision for Alchemy came about, and spoke to one of the Directors, Colette Moran. “The original vision was to provide personalised, proactive healthcare, but focusing on understanding the individual needs of our clients,” she told me. “This approach is grounded in our strong clinical foundation, shaped by a team of experienced consultant doctors and nurses who bring both medical expertise and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. We focus on helping our clients achieve their wellness goals while promoting long-term health and longevity. The result is a brand that seamlessly combines medical credibility with a luxurious, user-friendly experience.”
So, the big question – does it work? I have to say, yes. I left feeling genuinely renewed, like someone had quietly turned the lights back on inside me. My IV drip didn’t just promise a boost, it delivered one. I felt mentally sharper and clearer, while physically I experienced a steady, natural rise in energy that stayed with me long after I had stepped back into the day. If the goal was to feel restored, reenergised, and ready to keep moving forward, then this was exactly the right place to be.
