Mastery in motion – a day at Holland & Holland for the unveiling of the most luxurious Range Rover ever built
By Julia Roberts
There are few days that perfectly capture the essence of British luxury – but this was one of them. I spent the day at Holland & Holland, that hallowed ground of craftsmanship and heritage, to witness the unveiling of something truly extraordinary: the Holland & Holland Edition by Overfinch, a car already being hailed as the most luxurious Range Rover ever built.
Two icons – Holland & Holland, the masters of gunmaking since 1835, and Overfinch, the leader in bespoke Range Rover design – have joined forces to create just 25 examples of this rare collaboration. Built on the Range Rover SV platform, the edition draws inspiration from Holland & Holland’s legendary Royal Side-by-Side shotgun, in a nod to precision, artistry and legacy.
When the silk cover was lifted, the room collectively paused. The British Racing Green exterior, deep and lustrous, caught the light just so – a modern echo of tradition. The detailing was exquisite: the Holland & Holland insignia engraved into a dual-finish grille, 23-inch multi-spoke forged alloys, and subtle scrollwork referencing the elegant engravings of their sporting guns.
Inside, it’s a celebration of British craft. The cabin blends open-pore French walnut veneers, Bridge of Weir leather, and finely hand-engraved stainless steel. Even the smallest details feel deliberate – a Champagne cooler tucked into the rear console, illuminated door sills, and decorative inlays etched with “Limited Edition: One of Twenty-Five.” Every inch whispers refinement, not extravagance.
After the unveiling, I joined the Holland & Holland team outdoors for a little afternoon shooting practice. There’s something almost meditative about the rhythm of it – focus, breath, stillness – and using one of their Royal shotguns, the balance and beauty of the craftsmanship were unmistakable.
As the sun dipped behind the trees, we gathered once more for canapés and Champagne, a perfectly elegant finale to a fine day. The flowing conversations centred on a shared admiration for this rare fusion of automotive artistry and sporting tradition.
As Kevin Sloane, CEO of Overfinch, told me, “The Holland & Holland Edition is more than a vehicle; it’s a statement of craftsmanship, quality, and distinction.” Michael Ray-Jones of Holland & Holland added, “It’s a fitting tribute to our 190th year – a collaboration that celebrates British excellence in every sense.”
Driving away, I found myself thinking that this wasn’t just about a car. It was about legacy – the way heritage evolves without ever losing its soul. The Holland & Holland Edition by Overfinch isn’t simply built; it’s composed, a piece of living British artistry in motion.
