Breaking Ground

Fearless – the true story of Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to qualify for a Formula 1 Grand Prix

1.04

A story of passion – and audacity – de Filippis is well-remembered for being the first woman to qualify for a Formula 1 Grand Prix, behind the wheel of a Maserati 250F, widely considered one of the fastest models of its era. Whilst she failed to qualify the car the following year in the world championship Formula 1 races, she did however, manage to beat Bernie Eccleston, who was making his race debut at the time. Nicknamed “pilotina” (or “the little pilot”), de Filippis’ legacy and accomplishments assuredly continue to inspire us all to this day.
